Biography

Sylvain Roy, ethnomusicologist, specialist in Central Asian musical instruments, holds a thesis on the Afghan rubāb. He works on Central Asian instruments and more particularly cordophones, whose organological evolution he studies. This research leads him to collaborate on archaeo-violin making projects, particularly with the reconstruction of instruments that have disappeared from these regions. A musician, he studies the Kabuli repertoire on the Afghan rubāb. He also composes instrumental pieces where timbres and writing elements confront each other in new perspectives.
